    Its a case of SITUATIONAL irony, something you wouldn't expect to happen occurring. Like an Olympic swimmer drowning in the bathtub, or a statue that says freedom being fenced up.

    upon reading these comments i decided i had to leave one of my own. . . simply because it's rather obvious that people on here are trying to be funny (and succeeding in my opinion) and others assume they are simply unintelligent, missing the wit of their statement completely. foot loose and fancy free

    I love it when irony comes up on the web because it always creates an argument about what constitutes irony :) And in my opinion a statue proclaiming "Freedom" being fenced-off is, indeed, irony. I would imagine that most posters saying "This isn't irony" are American as Americans have never quite grasped the concept.
